Zane was a result of an experiment made by Fygul Cestemus. He can shapeshift into any animal he wants. Fygul created him when Astaroth went rouge so he could have Soul Edge for himself.
What lies in his soul is Lonliness.

Zane has extremely pale skin with black hair and rose-red eyes. His favorite colors are black and purple. He doesn't like to wear baggy clothing because it gets in the way when he's fighting.

Soulcalibur IVEdit
Zane woke up one day and decided he had to leave. He couldn't stay at the shrine anymore. Zane grabbed his ringblade and and left during the night. He knew Fygul would be upset, but that didn't matter. He had to leave.
Zane never looked back. He was finally free! He had never experienced freedom before and he was going to enjoy it. Zane took to the woods becuase it was easy to hide in the dark in the trees at night. Unfortunately he couldn't change his form becuase his powers were unstable due to the fact Fygul had used a Soul Edge shard to give him his powers. Zane decided he needed some practice, so everyday he turned himself into a small animal, like a cat. Zane had liked cats, and it fit his name, "Falscher kerl," which meant sly one. Zane also found out his powers didn't stop there; he could change objects into things. He learned how to change his ring blade into a collar, so he could carry it around without looking suspicious. It didn't stop people from trying to fight him like a woman with a skull on her shoulder. She had twin katana's and she attacked him out of no where,
Apparently this woman liked to fight. Zane blocked and parried her attacks, but he couldn't get a hit in. She was too strong. Zane ducked and a shot of energy flew over his head. He couldn't fight against her and win using only his ring blade. He needed to use his magic, but... He couldn't control it. Zane knew he couldn't win, so he tried to run but thw woman shot him in the shoulder. Zane panicked and used his magic to create and stream of air that sent the woman flying and off the ratf he was on. Zane sighed and fell to his knees becuase he was exhausted. With a sigh, he hopped off the raft and into the Cursed City of Ostrheinsburg. He knows this is where Nightmare rules, and he's sure to run into malfested. Zane decides he's going to go defeat Nightmare and tame Soul Edge like he was created to do.
Zane fought through a lot of people before he finally got to the Tower of Lost Souls. He encountered a Ghost Pirate there whom he defeated on his way up. Finally, Zane got to the top just in time to see Nightmare devour the soul of a girl with a ringblade. When Nightmare saw him the Azure Knight raised his zweihander. Zane knew it was time to fight.
It was a long and tough battle but Zane was able to destory Nightmare's physical form. Soul Edge floated surrounded by an orange aura. Zane grabbed Soul Edge and slashed at the aura of Soul Edge before running to the edge of the tower and jumping off. When he lands, he knows that he wields unlimited power. He stands and lifts Soul edge into the air.... But his story was not over. Soul edge morphs into the form of a ring blade. Zane carries around Soul Edge feeling proud. He had defeated the Azure Nightmare! After traveling for a while he encountered a man named Alistair. The man challenged him to a fight for Soul Edge and Zane was hesitant to agree. He didn't want to make a big deal of him having Soul Edge. He had heard that Cervantes was still alive, and he knew the pirate was after Soul Edge. Zane agrees to the fight and he wins. The man, Alistair, is angry.
"What do you hope to accomplish wielding that blade?? You don't even use it's power to rule anything and you could have naything you wanted!" Alistair yelled. Zane frowned at him.
"I don't want to just be famous for wielding Soul Edge..." Zane said. "I want to be famous for wielding Soul Edge with a kind heart! That way my Name will go down in the history books. I will live on forever!" Zane was surpirised with his own words. He hadn't thought of it like that. Zane left the man where he was and continued traveling. But what was he looking for? As Zane continued to journey he realized... He was lonely. He was very lonely and he had no one to go back to. He couldn't return to the shrine and he didn't want to anyway.
That was when he met Leandra Scott. Zane met her after he encountered Cervantes one day at a harbor. He turned his ring blade into a collar so Cervantes would not know he had Soul Edge. The pirate never noticed him, which was a good thing. But a woman wearing a cloak appeared and boarded the Pirate's ship. Apparently she knew him... As Zane listened he raised an eyebrow. This woman was raised by him, but he had destroyed her family! So she was there for revenge. This woman defeated the Cervantes and was about to make the final blow, when he disappeared into thin air. Zane shivered when he heard the pirate's words in the air: '"You will regret the day that you meet me again in battle, little girl... those swords you stole will come back to me soon. And only I know where you're brother is..."'
So, this woman was searching for family to? Zane could understand the feeling of searching for family. "Hello?" Zane called. The woman looked over at him. Zane tilted his head at her.
"Who are you?" the woman asked.
"I am Zane... Zane Shadow..." Zane answered
"I'm Leandra Scott!" The woman said. "What are you doing here?" she asked.
"I just want... a family..." replied Zane with a shrug.
"What happened to yours?" Leandra questioned walking over to Zane.
"I... uh never had one..." Zane muttered. Leandra frowned.
"Welll, I'm looking for my brother..." Leandra trailed off. "But you never had family to begin with?" She paused when Zane said nothing. "How about you help me find my brother?" Zane stared at her in disbelief.
"Really?" he questions. Leandra smiles at him.
"Yes, why not?"
Maybe... this was the beginning of his family.
Visions of TwinsEdit
While he still had Soul Edge, Zane would get headaches and start to see visions of a boy and a girl with Soul Edge as a Sword and Shield. They would randomly flash into his head and sometimes he passed out after having them. One thing he knew for sure is that they were Evil, and Sou edge was their Master. Wait... Was Sou Edge the cause of these visions? It had to be!
"You shoud probably get rid of Soul Edge," Leandra told him.
Zane stared at the ring blade version of Soul Edge and heard his voice in his head.
"Don't listen to her... You are the rightful wielder of Soul Edge..."
Another vision of the twins appeared in his mind and he threw the ringblade to the ground in shock and he kicks over the side of a cliff.. He couldn't deal with this anymore...
Soulcalibur VEdit
Zane was happy. He was happy because his 'mother' had found her brother. He was happy because his 'mother' had convinced him 17 years ago to throw away Soul Edge, and he was glad he did. Zane doesn't really know when he started to call Leandra his mother, but that's all he could see her as. She was nice and kind and very wise; like a mother. ...Now she really was a mother, She had a child named Luke. Zane thought he was precious. Zane tended to turn into a cat more and he would follow Leandra and Luke around in that form. But there was a question that was always on Zane's mind... Who was Luke's father?? Leandra wouldn't even tell him who he was. But why? Zane decided not to dwell on it. He wouldn't question his mother's decisions.
One day Zane went out for a while. Leandra was having a talk with Luke and he felt it was too private for him, so he went outside to get some fresh air. It was quiet, just the way he liked it, so he fell asleep. The next day Leandra told him she was going after Nightmare so she could get revenge against him for ruiniung her face. She told him to watch Luke, and he promised he would.
When Luke found out, he wanted to go after her.
"Do you know where she is?" Luke asked him.
"I can't tell you, Luke!" Zane said. So Luke left. Of course Zane went after him, but he stayed in the form of a cat so people wouldn't recognize him. Luke then met the son and daughter of Sakura, Hitoshi and Hanako. Zane felt his heart skip a beat when they told him exactly where his mother was in the Dark Caves of Death.
"Luke, you can't go!" Zane commands. He stands in front of Luke, but the boy doesn't listen to him.
"My mother would have been back by now, she must be in trouble!" Luke said. Zane frowned because Luke had a point.
"Okay but, I'm coming with you!" Zane knew this was a bad idea, but he couldn't convince Luke to come back home with him. The boy was stubborn!.
"MOM, hold on!!" Luke yelled when they heard Leandra scream. Zane was worried. He kind of wished he had went with Leandra to fight Nightmare. They found her with Nightmare about to deal the finishing blow. Zane ran after Luke and watched with growing horror when Luke pushed Nightmare. Zane knew that Nightmare was no push over and couldn't be taken lightly.
"Get away from her!" Luke screamed He crouched and begged for his mother to get up. Meanwhile, Zane had confronted Nightmare.
"You haven't changed a bit!" Zane says, swinging his ring blade at the Azure Knight. Nightmare blocks Zane's attack and swings at him. Zane ducks and tries to attack again, but Nightmare grabs him and throws him across the stage. Zane hit the cave wall and fell to the ground. That hadn't gone well.
"Nightmare, leave my son alone, he isn't part of this!" Zane heard Leandra scream. Zane got up just in time to see Nightmare stab his sword through Luke.
"LUKE!!!"
PersonalityEdit
Zane doesn't like to speak much and only says things that matter. When he fights, he often wonders why people choose to fight. He often ignores what the opponent says, and doesn't have a love for fighting very much.
EndingsEdit
Zane watches as Soul Edge floats off the ground surrounded by an orabge aura. He runs over to the blade and grabs it, jumping over the aura. He crouches for a second before turning around to face the orange energy. He runs at it and slashes it away and then jumps off the edge of the tower. At the base of the tower he pulls Soul Edge out of the ground and lifts it high into the air.
Text Epilouge reads: His name will be engraved into history and will live on forever.

Zane drags his thumb across his neck saying "See you in Hell" before spinning his ring blade at the opponent and doing more attcks with the ring blade almost like a dance. If he is 'Gloomy' he will have a final blow that does an extreme amount of damage.

Technically, Zane does have family; Astaroth could be counted as his brother.
In his story it says he uses magic, but there is no magic using style in Soulcalibur IV, he just uses a ring blade. In Soulcalibur V, it is possible to give him a style that uses magic.
