Soulcalibur: Lost Swords is a PlayStation 3 exclusive free-to-play game. It incorporates a token system. Lost Swords is single player experience and the focus is on completing missions.

Story

Soul Edge, the cursed sword who continually feeds on humanity.

Soul Calibur, the spirit sword fated to destroy the cursed sword's reign of terror.

The destinies of both swords have intertwined for ages long past. And now the stage is set at the end of the 16th century...

The knight Siegfried's soul burns as he takes up the spirit sword. Nightmare brandishes the cursed sword, ready to spread terror across the land.

In their devastating duel, the swords shatter. It was thought that finally, the curtain had closed in the swords' battle. But, the shards of the cursed sword had escaped to Astral Chaos. There, it travelled across multiple worlds and timelines, hoping to spread its terror once again. The remnants of the spirit sword also followed suit, hoping to vanquish its rival. Imbuing themselves onto different weapons, they fall asleep, waiting for the next battle to arise. And now the stage is set yet again, where the swords await their new beholders...

  • Events: there will be events to look forward to.
  • AP System: The game is time-limited by a points system, which depletes every time you attempt a mission.

Critical Reception

Soulcalibur: Lost Swords was poorly received by critics. Eurogamer criticized the game's significant loading times and the changes into gameplay system, including the removal of ring outs and the lack of multiplayer, as well as the gameplay focus on monetization.

Trivia

  • Unlike previous games in the series, the title is translated into English in all regions.
  • Mari Shimazaki was invited to create a new costume 'Rabbit Football'.
  • Oddly, during the first TGS trailer, Soulcalibur IV music can be heard. This particular part of the theme contains some notes from the Star Wars theme. Whether it was used on purpose or not is still unknown.
  • During the same trailer, while zooming on Soul Calibur, other characters' weapons such as Voldo's katars, Aeon's axes, Xianghua/Leixia's jians can be seen in the background. They might be a hint that more characters will be added afterwards.
    • Inferno, Cassandra, and Zasalamel appear in the TGS trailer, but their official presence in the game is not yet confirmed.
    • Though according to an interview with Katsuhiro Harada, more characters might be added as DLC and those characters could possibly be among the line-up, some of them hinted on this picture, such as Seong Mi-na, and Z.W.E.I..
    • This picture also shows Siegfried wielding the Soulcalibur IV version of Soul Calibur.
  • Parts used in creation/costumization retain the same role as in Soulcalibur IV, where stats could change from a piece of equipment to another.
  • In this game it is impossible to perform a ring out.
  • The addition of veteran fighters not available in Soulcalibur V may be a response to the criticism towards the game for the lack of stalwarts such as Sophitia,Taki and Seong Mi~Na
  • According to the character select screen, up to 16 characters will be playable.
    • Although the game is fully released in Japan only 12 of the 16 characters available are playable at the moment.
  • Weapon arts are new attacks your character can perform in battle. At the beginning of every attack you can see the combined animation of Critical Edge and Brave Edge from SCV (yellow glow and white sparks on the ground)
  • Successfully destroying the opponent's armor (Soul Break) will usually drop treasure for you to collect and use for your own characters.
  • In the game's "Quest Mode," should you be having trouble against a difficult opponent, you can summon a Support Character to the match to help you out. You can set your support character in the Partner Select screen outside of battles. However a Support Character can be used during limited period of time, which depends of the level of your Support Character. His HP bar is running down all the time and damage, that he takes during the summons, shortens this time. In addition, he can't be called anytime you like, because the special bar fills only as some time passes. Only when it's full you can summon a Support Character by pressing R2. This possibility enables you to prolong your combos with any attacks and with Weapon Arts of your Support Character, which considerably increases the damage taken by opponent.
  • During the beta of the game characters have an 1P outfit but in the release of the full game characters start off only in underwear.
