Mirror Shield (ミラーシールド?) one of the weapons that can be used by Link in Soulcalibur II.

Soulcalibur II[]

"Reflects attacks, but may cause Link to lose balance."
— Description

Based on its incarnation from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the Mirror Shield replaces the Hylian Shield while Link retains the Master Sword. It does not alter Link's actual stats, but it instead indirectly reflects attacks by draining the opponent's health with each hit they land, 33% proportional to the strength of the opponent's strikes. Despite the in-game description during the weapon selection says Link will "lose balance", he operates the shield like normal; instead any attacks that hits Link will all be considered as Counters.

Profile:[]

A mirror-like shield found in the Spirit Temple. It is an amazing work of art, and there are few who would argue that it is not one of the finest shields in Hyrule. It is said that its surface reflects not only light but hostile intent as well.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time[]

Although it had previously appeared in A Link to the Past (its debut) and Link's Awakening, the Mirror Shield in Soulcalibur II is this incarnation. The Mirror Shield was one of the special treasures found in the Spirit Temple. This powerful artifact not only repels attacks, but light as well. The mirror surface of the shield is empowered with magic, allowing it to absorb and redirect offensive magic attacks back to their source, much to the dismay of the Twinrova Sisters, Koume and Kotake. Because of its size, Young Link is unable to use it. It is also indestructible, as Like Likes cannot swallow it.

Trivia[]

OoT Mirror Shield Model 2

The original Gerudo symbol as seen in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

  • In this game, the Mirror Shield is the one used in Ocarina of Time, likely due to the fact that Link is an adult and is therefore able to wield the larger version with better precision and dexterity. Interestingly, the version of the Mirror Shield in Soulcalibur II replaces the original Gerudo symbol with a vaguely diamond-shaped, segmented emblem, which some believe is reminiscent of the back of a King Cobra; This is what would eventually become standard in later N64 releases and remakes of Ocarina of Time, due to the original Gerudo emblem being removed from all subsequent ports of the game, as it bore an almost exact resemblance to the real-life Star and Crescent Islamic symbol. Similarly, this is also why the original background music for Fire Temple was changed with its chants to a MIDI synthesizer due to the theme including sections of an Islamic prayer to Allah, which was the result of Nintendo accidentally violating their own policy of avoiding religious references in their games.
