Kulutues (クルトゥエス, Kulutues^?) is a giant axe created by Kunpaetku, the Grand Priest of the heretical order Fygul Cestemus. He used various incantations to create the axe, which Astaroth took in his quest to find Soul Edge. Astaroth uses it in Soulcalibur, Soulcalibur II, Soulcalibur III, Soulcalibur IV, Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, Soulcalibur V, and Soulcalibur VI.

Soulcalibur

Description: The grand priest Kunpaetku of the heretical order Fygul Cestemus made Astaroth's giant ax called Kulutues. The grand priest used many invocations to create this giant ax, which Astaroth took on his quest to find Soul Edge. Astaroth used Kulutues (which means "Merciless Destroyer" in the ancient language of the order), during his rampages.

The souls taken by Kulutues served to feed the never-ending hunger of Nightmare's Soul Edge. Once Soul Edge was full of souls, it would be taken to Astaroth's true master Palgaea, the god of evil, to bring forth the Apocalypse.

Soulcalibur II

Description: A giant ax designed for Astaroth by the cult that created him, the heretical order of Fygul Cestemus. It carries the blessing of their priests, but to a non-member attempting to use it, that blessing acts as a curse. It is Astaroth's preferred weapon and is very well-balanced.

Soulcalibur IV

Profile

The name means "merciless destroyer." This giant axe was forged with curses woven into its very blade by the same grand priest of the heathen cult that created Astaroth himself. From the very beginning, it was meant to be wielded by the golem.

Swinging the mighty axe lightly and easily, Astaroth spread mayhem and slaughter far and wide, obeying the commands of Palgaea the Executioner, the god that the cult worshiped. Astaroth gew more powerful and more evil, until eventually the fearsome Black Giant destroyed the cult that had first given him life.

Soulcalibur V

Profile: The giant axe Kulutues was well-suited to Astaroth's massive form. Just as multiple Astaroth units had been created from the core of "the original Astaroth", so too were multiple giant axes forged to arm them.
The original giant axe had been lost when "the original Astaroth" was defeated, but the Grand Priest Kunpaetku had recreated the weapon and instructed his subordinates to reproduce many copies. The axes were all infused with every curse known by the priests of Fygul Cestemus, and each one was meticulously crafted to perfection. The result was an entire armory of giant axes worthy of the name Kulutues, meaning "Merciless Destroyer".

Soulcalibur VI

"A golem-sized ax made by Fygul Cestemus, the cult that created the artificial giant Astaroth. It has been blessed by the cult's priests, but to those who have not been initiated, it is a curse. It is too large to be used as a weapon by normal humans and its destructive potential is nothing short of extraordinary."

Profile

A giant ax forged for Astaroth. In the language of the cult who created him, its name means "Merciless Destroyer." The seal engraved on it bestows upon its wielder great strength and fighting skills.

When Astaroth takes hold of the weapon, he lives up to the weapon's name with his insatiable appetite for death and carnage. His large frame allows him to dish out heavy blows that can crumple an opponent's armor or shield while simultaneously crushing their bodies and breaking their bones.

The huge golem loves nothing more than hearing the dying screams of his victims; really, he and this weapon were made for each other.

Trivia

• Astaroth's basic weapon throughout the Soul series. In the language of the sect that created Astaroth, Fygul Cestemus, Kulutues means "Merciless Destroyer".
• In Soulcalibur IV, the design of the ax had been altered to match Astaroth's new design. However, when selecting his alternate outfit, the ax uses its 1P design from Soulcalibur II and Soulcalibur III.
  • Despite Soulcalibur IV's 2P Kulutues' design being based off the one from Soulcalibur II and Soulcalibur III, Astaroth's 2P outfit is an updated version of his 1P outfit from Soulcalibur. 1P Kulutues' design in Soulcalibur is slightly different to how it looks it the later games.
• In Soulcalibur V, the new Astaroth uses the Soulcalibur III variant of Kulutues.
• In Soulcalibur: Lost Swords Kulutues appears in the game as one of Astaroth's unlockable weapons, it´s a Rank "A" weapon and it retains its shape of both Soulcalibur VI and Soulcalibur V.
