Kyam (キャン, also written as 喜屋武[2]) is Maxi's sworn brother. Adopted by Maxi's father and raised alongside him, he was Maxi's loyal right-hand man. He died alongside most of Maxi's crew when a horde of monsters led by Astaroth attacked their ship as it was anchored at an Indian port. Before he dies, he urges Maxi to help Kilik.
Background[]
Kyam was adopted by Maxi's father at a young age, and the two boys were raised as brothers. Kyam was quite the charming fellow, with a knack for negotiations. Whenever Maxi got into trouble at a port, Kyam was always there to smooth things over and pull his brother out of the fire. Maxi's father gave Kyam a necklace as a gift, which he treasured until the day he died.[3]

Though not unskilled in the ways of combat, he excels in more intellectual pursuits, and learned seafaring and linguistics from Maxi's father, a former merchant. At present, he's Maxi's right-hand man, and is in charge of handling negotiation and other important tasks. In some ways, you could say he's the one who takes care of the ship's family.
Soulcalibur Manhua[]

Kyam appears in volume 2 of the Soulcalibur Manhua. His role is mostly the same as in the games, although his design is drastically different.
Being raised since childhood alongside Maxi by his father, both turned into brothers and best friends. Kyam usually took his Chinese Sword, Qing Long and assumed the leadership of Maxi's crew during Maxi's absences. Jacques, another member of the crew, met Kilik while in port. Kilik wished to travel on the ship and Kyam gave permission for the wandering martial artist to sail with them. However Astaroth's ambush in the port town ended with Kyam's death at the hands of the giant golem. Before he dies, he tells Maxi to help Kilik before the influence of the Evil Seed worsens. Maxi then swore to avenge Kyam's death.
