Ezio Auditore da Firenze[2] (エツィオ・アウディトーレ・ダ・フィレンツェ, Etsio Auditōre Da Firentse) is a playable guest character in Soulcalibur V and was first introduced in the second iteration of the Assassin's Creed series, Assassin's Creed II. He returned in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed: II Discovery and Assassin's Creed: Revelations.
He first appeared in a leaked screenshot from a closed Namco Bandai press reveal and was later confirmed in an exclusive gametrailers trailer.
In Soulcalibur V's promotional material he is referred to as The Master Assassin.

History
Edit
He was a Florentine noble during the Italian Renaissance and, unbeknownst to most historians and philosophers, a Mentor of the Italian Assassins. He was an ancestor to both Desmond Miles and Subject 16.
Ezio remained unaware of his Assassin heritage until the age of 17, when his father and two brothers, Federico and Petruccio, were murdered before his eyes. Forced to flee his birthplace with his remaining family, Ezio took refuge in the Tuscan town of Monteriggioni, at the Villa Auditore. Learning of his heritage from his uncle, Mario Auditore, Ezio began his Assassin training and his quest for vengeance against the Grand Master of the Templar Order, Rodrigo Borgia, who had ordered the execution of his father and two brothers.
During his quest, Ezio managed to not only unite the pages of Altaïr's Codex for the first time since Domenico Auditore but also to save the cities of Florence, Venice, and Rome from the Templars' control. He ensured the future travels of Christoffa Corombo to the "New World," liberated Rome from Borgia control, and prevented the rise to power of Ercole Massimo's Cult of Hermes, helping spread the Renaissance and Assassin ideals of independence and free thought throughout Italy.
In the years that followed, Ezio began a quest to rediscover the lost history of the Order. Traveling to the aged fortress of Masyaf in order to learn more about his ancestors, he discovered the fortress overrun with Templars and made his way to the city of Constantinople to uncover the location of the Seals of Altaïr which, as he discovered, would unlock a powerful weapon when brought together.

Edit
According to historian Shaun Hastings, there is a gap in Ezio's timeline. Though data from the Animus is sparse, it would seem Ezio discovered a strange artifact in 1506, while on his way to Navarre to fight Cesare Borgia.
The artifact in question was held by a group of Templars plotting to overthrow Queen Catalina, off the Spanish coast. During the night, Ezio boarded the ship, overcame the Templars, and set the vessel ablaze. He then stole the chest holding the artifact and, once in a safe place, opened it.
The Animus readings are very erratic after that. To quote Shaun: "Bugger if I know how DNA and an earthquake are related, but this looks like readouts from the Richter Scale!"
According to our data, Ezio's timeline seems to jump to the end of the 16th Century, with him fighting against several strange, powerful foes. This cannot be possible. Immediately afterwards, Ezio appears in 1507, sailing for Navarre.
I guess the truth will remain a mystery.
Fighting Style
Edit
Ezio uses a varierity of weapons consisting of a longsword, twin hidden blades with a hidden gun in one of them, a dagger and a crossbow. The sword is mainly used for mid-ranged vertical attacks which are moderately fast, while the hidden blades are mostly used for close-range and horizontal attacks which are very precise. The crossbow is used to distantly damage an enemy and take them to the ground. Ezio also uses his hidden gun which works similiarly to Cervantes', but keeps his weapons sheathed when not attacking or defending.
Ezio is generally similiar to Raphael in terms of speed, strength and range, though he has fewer evasive moves. Depending on the weapon used, his range varies greatly--from approximately Viola's melee range (basic dagger/hidden blade attacks) to infinite (crossbow and hidden gun). By catching his opponent off-guard, Ezio is capable of harassing from afar with his crossbow, and the knockback may even result in a ring out. Ezio is therefore an extremely versatile fighter, though he does not truly excel at any of the usual ranges.
Critical Edge
Edit
Full Synchronization: Ezio throws his smoke bomb under his feet, and if opponent is struck with the first slash, Ezio will quickly slash them twice more, shoot from the crossbow, and then from the hidden gun.

Trivia
Edit
- According to Hisaru Tago, Soulcalibur V's game producer, Ezio was chosen to be the guest character of Soulcalibur V because the guest characters of Soulcalibur IV (Darth Vader, Yoda and the Apprentice) were not too well received by fans who complained that the Star Wars characters "didn't quite fit" in the Soul Calibur universe. Ezio, on the other hand, is said to "fit" the Soul Calibur universe much better.
- Ezio is the only Italian character whose name does not start with a V.
- Ezio is the second guest character to share a voice actor with Siegfried, as they are both voiced by Roger Craig Smith in English. The first being Link, in which he shares the same Japanese voice actor with both Siegfried and Yoshimitsu, Nobuyuki Hiyama.
- Ezio's Japanese voice actor, Tomokazu Seki, also voices Viewtiful Joe in the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 series and Domon Kasshu in Mobile Fighter G Gundam and any Super Robot Wars and Another Century's Episode titles involving G Gundam that include voices.
- Ezio's pose for his render is exactly like the one he does for the cover art of Assassin's Creed II. Also, his 2D artwork shows Ezio in the same posture as in a rendered promotional artwork for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. This is possibly due to Ezio being a strictly licensed character whom Takuji Kawano was only allowed to draw if he used the given posture that had been approved by Ubisoft.
- Ezio's theme song, "Venice Rooftops (SCV Remix)" is a remix of the original tracks "Venice Rooftops" and "Ezio's Family". Both come from Assassin's Creed II. The remix was created by Jesper Kyd - the same man that composed scores for every major installment of Assassin's Creed series - and the song is available to listen to at composer's official site under the name "Ezio's Battle".
- Ezio is the second character in the Soul series to bear a firearm, the first being Cervantes. Also, Ezio's weapon is similar to the weapon of Dampierre, and they are the only characters in the Soul series that have hidden blades on their outfits.
- Although his first appearance is Assassin's Creed II, Ezio's costume is from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
- The victory phrase "May no one remember your name." is a nod to Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood which he tells the final boss of the game, Cesare Borgia. (Che nessuno ricordi il tuo nome. (May no one remember your name.) Requiescat in pace. (Rest in peace.))
- Ezio's 2P costume looks similar to his 1P costume, and, while just a pallette swap, it is a nod to his costume in Assassins Creed: Revelations; it is gray instead of white, & yellow instead of red.
- Due to weapons no longer having different stats, Ezio has no alternate weapons.
- Ezio's moveset cannot be copied by Kilik or Edge Master, nor can it be used by custom characters.
- Ezio's costume is the costume used in the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood promotional pics and E3 trailer and not his costume used in the final design used for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
- In Soulcalibur V, Dampierre and Ezio both have hidden weapons in their sleeves: Dampierre has two hidden daggers and Ezio has two hidden blades. Also they're both assassins, Dampierre self-proclaimed "The World's Greatest Assassin" and Ezio being refered to as "Master Assassin".
- Ezio fought in the Seige of Viana and killed Cesare Borgia. Both occured in 1507, only 100 years away from the events of Soulcalibur V.
Etymology
Edit
Ezio Auditore da Firenze means "Ezio Auditore from Florence" in Italian. Ezio is derived from the Latin surname and common name Aetius, taken from the Greek Aetios, deriving from aétos (αέτος), which means "eagle." Auditore is a common surname, which means, "he who dares."
