Character Creation

From the Soulcalibur Wiki

Character Creation is a system where players can create their own characters for play in Soulcalibur III and Soulcalibur IV. Namco has confirmed that unlike in Soulcalibur III, the parts a player selects will have more than just an aesthetic effect. Rather, they will alter that character's attributes and play style. The Special Edition of SCIV will include a number of exclusive parts for the character creation system. It is unknown at this time if these bonus parts will be made available to owners of the regular edition as Downloadable Content (DLC). So far, two character creation packs has been made available on the XBL Market Place and the PlayStation Store that offers the Soulcalibur III CaS content as well as some "unique" headsets from some of the other characters including Voldo and Sophitia. This costs 100 Gamer Points. An interesting fact in Soulcalibur IV is with the exclusion of the Star Wars characters, bonus characters, and Algol, all alternate costumes can be made in Character Creation, but the primary costumes cannot. However, the player cannot make alternative costumes for a existing character in Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny and can only color edit them.

[edit] Soulcalibur IV

Character Creation from Soulcalibur III returns in Soulcalibur IV. Instead of including some original weapon styles for use with certain classes of fighters, SCIV now allows players to simply choose which character from the series they would like to have their created character mimic (excluding the Star Wars guest characters, the bonus characters, and Algol).

A wide array of new pieces of equipment are available for use in SCIV's Character Creation mode, and new options include a wider range of character voices (with pitch adjustment), the ability to change a character's general physique and muscularity, and even a choice of poses for the character to use on the versus screen.

In addition, equipped items now also affect a character's statistics. Some pieces of armor may increase health, attack or defense; some equipment and accessories may also grant skill points that allow the character to equip special traits that affect the character's playstyle. Standard characters will also be able to be modified in this way to a modest degree, allowing custom costumes and skill sets to be used in Special VS. mode.

Created characters also are capable of participating in Story Mode in Soulcalibur IV.

[edit] Translated Article

Fans at GameFAQs/Gamespot located and translated an article from Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu containing a wealth of information on character creation. The translations were rough and remain unofficial, but as several users provided very similar yet independent translations it may be safe to assume that the translation itself is valid (which does not necessarily mean the information itself is). Note that some of the translations use the term "CaS," for Create-a-Soul, a fan term that Namco has never officially used. It is possible that the magazine picked up this term or that it appears as a result of the roughness of the translation, and that alone does not provide sufficient evidence to discredit the article.

Based on a translation provided by user kayuza:

  • Complete freedom for use of parts, color change, and clothes combinations.
  • Body build and muscle are also adjustable, there are 100 levels of modification.
  • You can change fighting styles and abilities.
  • 50 character slots.
  • Use parts obtained and equipment bought; you can build ninja.
  • You can edit 20 parts of the character, you can also change voice depths, also equip parts on existing characters.
  • Adjusting both structure and muscle build makes appearance change more visible.
  • Appearance and voice can be modified at will.

Here are the options that can be changed in Character Creation:

[edit] 1st tab - Equipment

  • Entire set - Automatically equips the character with equipment matching a certain theme (ex: Soldier, Clergy, etc.). For picks default costumes for the main characters and guests.
  • Head equipment - Hats, headbands and helmets. rings, only usable by guest/special characters (Such as Vader and Shura) and edits of the DEFAULT costumes. (For Algol you can only edit his default costumes so he can only use Link rings)

[edit] 2nd Tab - Equipment color

Allows the colour of all equipment to be changed. Certain pieces of equipment may have multiple colours that can be customized.

[edit] 3rd Tab - Physique

  • Color of base equipment - The underwear and bra will be visible if not covered up by the character's equipped undergarments.
  • Physique and muscularity - Allows adjusting Physique and Muscularity from a scale of -50 to 50. Physique alters the size of the character (for females, almost specifically their breast size) and muscularity affects their muscle tone.
  • Voice type and pitch - Allows selecting of several voices for your character. The pitch of the selected voice can be changed on a scale of -50 to 50.
  • Hair style - Allows selecting of various different hair styles for your character.
  • Face Type - Changes the character's face. Males have many more faces than Females, as most faces come with various facial hair options.
  • Hair color - Changes the colour of the character's hair. Sometimes the hairstyle will have two colours that can be changed, which is typically just the colour of a hair band.
  • Eyebrow and facial hair color
  • Eye color
  • Skin color

[edit] 4th Tab - Equipment

If skills have been equipped, changing any of these options will remove them

  • Fighting style - Select one of the fighting styles of any of the characters (Minus guest characters and Algol)
  • Weapon - Select one of the weapons used by your selected character.

[edit] 5th Tab - Skills

Up to four skills can be equipped to your character depending on the points they have based on their equipment. Certain weapons come with an intrinsic skill, in which case it will automatically be set in your 1st slot.
